CST 300 - Week Seven

Reflections on Teamwork

Our team split up the final research video project into three tasks: research, scripting, and video creation. As a group of three, we each chose one task. This worked for the assignment but since one team member was missing from the initial meeting, we were not able to ensure that each member was truly happy with their assigned task. In the future, we will try to make sure that everyone can be at the initial group meeting and is content with their part of the assignment.

Reflections on Ted Talks

“This is what happens when you reply to spam emails”- James Veitch

This was a very entertaining talk on the nature of spam emails and new ideas of how to respond. The speaker shared a great story in an engaging manner.

“How quantum biology might explain life’s biggest questions” - Jim Al Khalili

This was a very informative talk about the role of quantum physics in biology. In this talk, the speaker kept the audience captivated with a lot of interesting information as well as intriguing graphics to help the audience understand his talk.

Reflections on “Life After Death by Powerpoint” -Don McMillan

This was another entertaining piece with tips for creating an effective PowerPoint presentation. I really agreed with his message and enjoyed his style! I will watch this again when I could use a laugh!

CST 300 - Week Six

Group Discussion on Capstone Ideas

During our meeting, our group discussed each other’s ideas for the capstone project. My favorites from each were Yoela’s inventory idea and Jose’s personal recipe database. These could both be very practical and useful, a great example of how technology can enhance our day-to-day lives.

Notes on Week Six

This week I spent a lot of time developing, writing, and editing my ethics report. It feels good to know my work produced something that I can be proud of. At this point, I just have a few small amendments and then it’ll be turned in. Looking forward to receiving my grade.

CST 300 - Week Four

Educational Goals

  • To obtain a BS in computer science and master the technological skills needed to meet success as a modern software engineer within the next two years.
  • To obtain a master’s degree in computer science or a different technologically related field in the next six years.

Career Goals

  • To obtain a position (with a lot of opportunity for growth) as a software engineer in a progressive company within the next three years.
  • To find a niche and ultimately start my own company in the field of technology so that I can work for myself, within the next 15-20 years.

ETS Computer Science test

This test really caught my interest and I spent a lot more time reviewing it than I had originally planned. At this point in my education I only know the most basic elements of computer science, still, I found myself getting involved in each question and trying to use what I know to solve the problems. I noticed that a lot of what I did know came from a discrete math class that I took last year. It was nice to review this but of course I still have a lot to learn. When I do take the test, I hope to be in at least the 80th percentile.

Notes on Week Four

This was a good week with a lot of learning but a very manageable workload. I really enjoyed delving into the different ethical frameworks and claims. I had a lot of time to research my ethics report and write an outline. Having this time to research and organize my thoughts will make a big difference when it comes to writing my report.
